Pete's Academic Biography

Peter J. Balega, Juris Doctor, Baylor University School of Law, 1978. Mr. Balega is also in the Ph. D. program at North Dakota State University. Mr. Balega’s areas of expertise include First Amendment Communication issues, Legal Communication, Conflict Resolution, Political Communication, and Sports Communication issues. His research focuses on Legal and Political Communication matters in addition to the role of communication in the process of decision making. Mr. Balega currently teaches courses in Communication Law and Legal Communication. Two additional courses, Political Communication and Communication & Conflict Resolution, have been approved and are in development. Mr. Balega will be presenting a paper this Fall at the National Communication Association Convention in San Diego, CA on the communication implications involved with reporters’ privilege in Federal Court entitled Shield or Sword: An Analysis of the Boundaries of Communication Privacy Management Theory and Development of Journalists’ Privilege of Confidentiality. In furtherance of his academic pursuits, Mr. Balega draws on his years of experience as a trial attorney in the field of complex civil litigation to enhance and direct his various research interests.
